Our Story

Our classical model charter school, Jacksonville Classical Academy, opened in Fall 2020. Enrollment is still open for this coming school year for students in Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. For parents that are seeking a more challenging, inspirational school experience for their child, Jax Classical is the perfect place.

Jacksonville Classical Academy (JXC) has been supported from the start up until now by the Barney Charter School Initiative (BCSI) of Hillsdale College and have met their benchmarks along the way. JXC receives training and support from BCSI each year. Jacksonville Classical Academy is a Licensed User of the Hillsdale College K-12 Curriculum.

Jacksonville Classical Academy is located near downtown Jacksonville and close to I-95 at 2043 Forest Street. Jax Classical is a tuition-free public charter school. The school's classical education model offers students a sound curriculum based on the traditions of the liberal arts and sciences, with instruction in the principles of moral character and civic virtue.

“I am very excited and proud that we were able to bring this high-quality school choice option to our community,” said Jacksonville Classical Academy Chairman of the Board, John D. Rood. “The Barney Charter School Initiative is an excellent program and I am extremely impressed with its classical curriculum. Hillsdale College-supported charter schools perform well and provide a challenging and inspirational educational experience.”

This first year served kindergarten through 6th grade and opened with approximately 500 students, selected by random lottery. Grades have been added each year and will continue to do so until Jax Classical reaches K-12 with a total capacity of approximately 1,000 students.
